Q: Why doesn't the University provide other benefits such as mortgage payments or credit card expenses?
The University is not a Public Benevolent Institution, and so does not have the Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) concessions that charities and hospitals enjoy. Apart from Motor Vehicles, Salary Packaging only packaged benefits that do not attract FBT.
Q: What are the legal aspects of Salary Packaging?
Salary Packaging is an Australian Tax Office approved means of allowing employees to effectively restructure their income. It is widely used in both the public and private sector.
Q: Can I change or terminate my package?
Changes can be made to your package at any time, although there may be an admin fee payable if the change is done outside the normal annual review.
Q: What happens if I go on leave without pay (LWOP)?
As outlined in section 7.2 of the Salary Packaging Guide and section 4 of the Salary Packaging Agreement, the Salary Packaging arrangement will cease if a prolonged period of LWOP is commenced.
Q: What happens if I leave Curtin University?
If you cease your employment with Curtin, your package is terminated upon your resignation or retirement date.
