Superannuation
Members of the University sponsored superannuation schemes (Unisuper and GESB) are able to salary package superannuation contributions; both the compulsory component and well as any voluntary additional contributions. Payments may also be made to private Super funds, at the discretion of Salary Packaging.
Employees are strongly advised to seek independent advice before packaging their super.
Payments to a super fund made via a salary packaging arrangement are considered to be an employer contribution and therefore attract a 15% Tax, and are not eligible for the Co-contribution payment. General information on maximising your super contributions thru Salary Packaging and the Co Contribution payment can be found on this page.
The savings (after packaging fees and taxes) that may be obtained through salary packaging this particular benefit is determined by your taxable income:
$30,001 to $75,000 - 17%
$75,001 to $150,000 - 29%
$150,001+ - 35%
A graph showing the savings that can be obtained from packaging your compulsary Unisuper contributions can be found here.
